Diagonal Stitch

From Barbara Walker's A Treasury of Knitting Patterns

The Diagonal Stitch is a simple and attractive stitch, perfect for scarves, wraps, dishcloths, etc. The stitches on the right side flow in a diagonal pattern, while the reverse side looks like garter stitch. The yarn used in this scarf sample is 1 skein of Fleece Artist's "Marina". I used a 6mm needle for the scarf and casted on 30 sts. The fabric naturally wants to curl at the edges, however blocking helps to correct this. For extra security, I suggest adding a garter stitch border of 2 stitches or so on either side.
